Check out Kelowna's 360-degree rooftop patio restaurant

Top spot for an experience with a Caribbean flair

There’s a new iteration of a popular spot in Kelowna that offers uninterrupted all-round views of the downtown and perfectly reflects just how quickly the city and its hospitality sector are growing … in this case upwards.

Perch Sky Lounge has opened with a sophisticated ambience that matches the penthouse location atop the Innovation Centre on Doyle Avenue.

“This is in the sky, it’s Kelowna’s sky lounge, with the largest patio in Kelowna for a rooftop patio, so I just thought that it fit,” owner/operator Joseph Lavigne told Kelowna10 from one of the tables placed under a large sunbrella.

Given the unbridled skyward expansion of Kelowna you could say the restaurant and bar are off the street but very much in the action when it comes to the views of the ever-changing landscape.

“This is why I picked the location because of the 360-degree view of downtown Kelowna which is constantly growing,” Lavigne explained. “I see a new crane starting every day. It’s very exciting.”

He said the restaurant’s atmosphere is very much a ‘wine forward’ vibe, with international cuisine. A big part of the approach is to work with lots of local suppliers to showcase local artisan cheese, meats and breads and to also offer unique chicken and waffle dishes. The fare is then paired with local wines. Local beers are also served along with higher end spirits.

The special twist from the kitchen comes from Ernel Williams, a Jamaican chef.

“There are no other restaurants giving you a good Caribbean vibe, “ Williams said, noting some of his dishes and sauces exude a tropical coconut cream and curry blend.

“People are loving it. And also the jerk chicken wrap … that’s the star of the show.”

As is the view of course.
