Celebrating six decades of the performing arts

Kelowna’s ‘community theatre’ reaches landmark.

One of Kelowna’s favourite arts and culture venues is celebrating 60 years.

On September 13, 1962, the then town of Kelowna, with its 15,000 residents, celebrated the opening of a brand-new community space.

Since then, the Kelowna Community Theatre has earned its leading role as "the community's theatre" as citizens played a major role in its funding and creation.

Over the years, the venue has been filled with some of the biggest acts in the music industry.

“We’ve had numerous performers and presenters on our stage, including Jason Mraz, Gordon Lightfoot, Jann Arden, Crash Test Dummies, and Bianca Del Rio,” local actress and singer Delphine Litke told Kelowna10 as she showed some of the improvements to the location.

“This weekend we’ll be hosting the Gary Cable Project with the OSO ."

Some of the city's finest performers including Ballet Kelowna, the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Kelowna Society, Wentworth Music, the Canadian School of Ballet, Robert Fine and many more, call the Kelowna Community Theatre home.
