Can this button in your car save you money?

We are all trying to squeeze the most out of our fuel tanks these days.

Some newer vehicle models are equipped with an Eco Mode that claims to save you money on fuel.

We took that question right to someone who knows a lot about cars.

Dave Morin is Shop Foreman at Elite Auto Centre. He says Eco buttons are designed to get the most fuel efficiency out of your car.

You will save money, how much depends entirely on the vehicle and how often you use Eco Mode.

What you gain in fuel efficiency, however, you give up in power.

There's no quick acceleration (which may not be a problem if you're crawling along Highway 97 in summer traffic!).

Another thing to consider when looking to get the most fuel efficiency out of your vehicle is to keep it well maintained.

Morin says replacing fuel filters and keeping your tires at optimum pressure are other things that impact how many kilometers you will get per litre.
