City crews ready to tackle spring cleaning
The recent surge of warm weather has brought out sweeping crews ahead of schedule.
The full street cleaning program kicks off Sunday March 24th.
Crews will be out in full force seven days a week, 20 hours a day, with the goal of finishing by early May, barring weather delays.
When it’s all said and done, crews will have swept over 2,100 lane kilometers, 390 kilometers of bike lanes, 440 kilometers of sidewalks, and over 35,000 square meters of meridians.
“We have seven large road sweepers, six municipal tractors, two water trucks, two dump trucks, two dedicated sidewalk sweepers and 40 staff working on this year’s annual sweep,” said Andrew Schwerdtfeger, Roadways Operations Manager in a press release.
“Street sweeping is completed in sections and we’ll be posting this year’s route schedule on a weekly basis at kelowna.ca/roadsweeping.”
Now, here's a test. Big Ginger from 103.1 Beach Radio thought: could his household vacuum tackle more dirt and area than a city street sweeper? Watch the video to find out.
