This beer not only tastes good, but is doing good in Kelowna

It's a pint with a purpose

The idea is believed to have started in Europe - turning old bread into beer, all in an effort to reduce food waste.

But Barn Owl Brewing in Kelowna has taken this process a step further with it's Breaking Bread Amber Ale.

This pint has a purpose - and begins its journey with an act of rescue.

Loaves of bread destined for waste at the Central Okanagan Food Bank are passed along to master brewer Colin Pistawka.

From there, the transformation begins.

These simple staples evolve from ordinary loaves to an extraordinary ale.

Yet, the magic doesn't stop there.

For every pint of Breaking Bread Amber Ale sold, Barn Owl gives $1 back to the food bank.

"Because, after all, it's

not just about brewing a great beer, Barn Owl co-founder Gary Brucker said. "It's about crafting

a better community."
