Trio of choreographers to show off their work
It's time for Ballet Kelowna's production, Ex Animo, which celebrates the many facets of human connection, presented at the Kelowna Community Theatre over the Valentine's weekend of Feb. 14 and Feb.15.
The program will bring back three of the company's most esteemed choreographers who have partnered with Ballet Kelowna over the last several years, including Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe, Alysa Pires, and Robert Stephen.
Both Fraser-Monroe and Pires will premiere new works for Ballet Kelowna.
Fraser-Monroe's piece will be his fourth commission for the company. Called payɛčot yɛχət (meaning “I always remember” in Ayajuthem, the language belonging to the Homalco, Klahoose, K’omoks, and Tla’amin First Nations), the work explores his intimate relationship to hoop dance, as one of his earliest dance influences.

Pires' piece, Vestiges, is a striking commentary on the search for true connection and meaning amid disorder, and will feature her bold and lively choreography. This will be her third creation for Ballet Kelowna.
Stephen will remount his 2022 commission, In the Light of the Waking Sun, which features the elegant melodies of Schubert and is an uplifting meditation on finding hope in challenging times.
