A Q&A with Kelowna's own bludnymph

Kelowna's latest rising star has secured a record deal

TikTok sensation and Kelowna's own bludnymph swung by the 103.1 Beach Radio studio to chat with Ara and Toby.

The burgeoning pop talent has quickly launched from making fun tracks in her bedroom, to gracing fans with her talents on the Fast & Furious: Drift Tape/Phonk Vol 1 and even a Netflix show. She recently joined APG records.

Below is a condensed interview with bludnymph:

Ara: You're in Kelowna making music, and now you got a record deal, and you're in L.A. How does this happen?

bludnymph: I have made music alone in my room and with friends for a few years. I made a silly song one day, I posted it, and people really liked it. It just kind of got big on TikTok, big on the internet, and then a label contacted me, and I flew out to L.A. and the rest is history.

Toby: Is it the full star treatment in Los Angeles?

bludnymph: Honestly, I do feel pretty special.

Ara: Can you describe your image, your whole getup to me? Like, what’s your vibe?

bludnymph: My vibe is just like fantasy, magical creature. I like to be sexy and magical and a little funny. It's in the name nymph. I love the old, Brothers Grimm fantasy stuff. I like it a little spooky, too. Like a nymph, like a mixture between an elf and a fairy. And I love Halloween, so dressing up is one of my favourite things ever.

Ara: We're about to hear a lot more of bludnymph. I mean, I'm sure people have heard you already. Where can we catch these songs? TV, movies, like what's going on?

bludnymph: It's kind of everywhere on the internet. So, on all streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal. I am hoping to get more songs in more media, like movies. There's nothing I can say specifically about that right now, but we're working on it. So hopefully in a lot of places, hopefully I'll be all over in everyone's faces and you can't get rid of me. I actually have a song on a Netflix show, it's called Heartbreak High, my song ‘Feast’ is in there. I did a song on the Fast and Furious phonk tape. That song is called ‘Press It'. It's like a phonk song, so it's good for drifting too.

Ara: We're just into 2023, where do you see this year for you?

bludnymph: Honestly? Making so much music and posting so much music. I'm hoping to drown everyone in my music. As much as possible. That's my plan. I'm going to do little SoundCloud releases in between my big releases too. For the people who are really into it, you can go and find my extra sneaky stuff on SoundCloud. But we will be aiming for like 20 songs this year, 20 singles at least, and we'll see hopefully a project too. And lots of music videos, which I love. Music videos are so fun. Dressing up and dancing.

Ara: What’s been your coolest recording experience so far?

bludnymph: I was recording with this producer, John Feldmann, and we were working on a punk song. And he just texted Travis Barker and asked him if he wanted to show up and do the drums on my song. And he did, it was pretty insane. He was super nice, gave me a hug, it was cool. I was like, ‘wow, I feel like Kourtney Kardashian right now.’ And his drumming, seeing it live in person, I don't even know how to describe it, on my own vocals, it was crazy. I was trying so hard to just keep it cool. I had Roscoe and I was holding him tight and I'm just smiling. And I saw him and he was like (Imitates drumming sounds), I don't know how he did it, but he's so talented and really nice too. I appreciated that. He made me feel comfortable and he said very encouraging things to me. It made me feel good. Thanks Travis!

Toby: We love the track, 'Lights Out'! Can you tell us who else you've been working with?

bludnymph: I've been working with a producer named Cirkut, he did Wreaking Ball with Miley Cyrus. He did Blurred Lines, and a bunch of stuff with The Weekend, Ke$ha. I have to pinch myself sometimes because I don't even feel like it is real.
