Rookie scores his first league goal at Rocket’s Teddy Bear Toss
Despite a narrow 3-2 loss for the Kelowna Rockets, fans had a reason to smile during Friday night’s game against the Victoria Royals.
The second period will certainly be a memorable one for rookie number 29, Logan Peskett, as the 16-year-old scored not only his first WHL goal but kicked off the aerial pandemonium that is the Teddy Bear Toss.
As Regan Bartell of 104.7 the Lizard coined it ‘Teddy confetti’ began raining down on the ice at Prospera Place.
The surface was scattered from one end to the other with stuffed toys wrapped in plastic from fans who held onto their donations throughout the whole first period, waiting for Rocket’s first goal of the night.
Arena staff, volunteers, and players themselves helped scoop up and collect the hundreds of toys. They were bagged up and loaded onto pickup trucks, accompanied by an RCMP escort.
Once the ice was cleared and the precious cargo loaded up, the convey immediately rolled out the Zamboni gate and straight to Kelowna General Hospital. The toys will hopefully bring a smile to families who will spend the holiday season there instead of at home.
