Why this tiny lot is no problem for hotel developer

Hotel to be squeezed onto narrow lot

It's a tiny lot of land that was on the market for some time.

It's also an eyesore, in part because of the derelict, graffiti-strewn small building that sits on it.

But in a clear indication that there is always money to be made in Kelowna, a hotel group plans to build a six-storey development on this narrow, sliver of land at the corner of McCurdy and Highway 97.

Kelowna council is backing plans for the Hyatt House hotel.

The development includes 125 rooms along with a restaurant, fitness space, and function rooms.

Most parking will be underground and the project features enhanced landscaping, including a pocket park and connections to the Okanagan Rail Trail.

The city says the hotel will support tourism, jobs, and sustainable travel options along the Highway 97 transit corridor.
